Stumbled upon this brilliant piece of digital activity in which kids can explore Table Mountain in South Africa in Roblox. Both of my kids play Roblox, and I recently helped them build their first Roblox game. It’s very intuitive and fun to make a simple ‘Obby’ (obstacle course). I’m also thinking about how kids can influence parents. My 9-year-old loves everything related to Japan and really wants to visit. I have to say it has influenced my wife and me as well. We both really want to visit Japan now, and it has added an extra layer of motivation to travel sometime.
I wonder how many tourist agency have this type of child targeting as part of their marketing… probably not enough…
Adding to the mix, this article by McKinsey highlights the potential of the Metaverse for the travel industry. It provides numerous examples of use cases in the travel and tourism space. Here are a few:
- Take a hot Air balloon ride over Saudi Arabia in Decentraland.
- Check-in in the Metaverse with Qatar Qverse
- Emirates will train their cabin crew in the Metaverse
- Bengalure Airport offering a Metaverse version of their Terminal 2, allowing travelers to check-in, shop, and, well, I’m not quite sure what else.
No doubt the boom/fad in the Metaverse has waned, but this chart by TNMT suggests that there is now a more measured excitement about the possibilities of the Metaverse.

So, keep your eyes on this virtual space. It’s an ever-evolving landscape that holds tremendous potential for the future of travel.
